  2. Indians at the Dodgers

    Game 1

    The Indians started the first game against the Dodgers off strong with 2 runs in the first inning. Rasmus and Cano put their team in the lead right off the bat over the Dodgers. The Dodgers struggled to get men on base, with consistent outs, many of which to the outfield. Nava came in to pinch hit in the 5th inning, but had no luck getting on base. The Indians furthered the scoring range in the game, and scored another run in the top of the 6th. The Dodgers finally had some luck getting on base, and scored a run by Ellis in the bottom of the 6th. The score at this point was 3 - 1. The Dodgers bring in Jansen to start off the 7th inning. In attempts to catch the Indians, Ramirez of the Dodgers doubled to start the bottom of the 8th and was knocked in by Ellis to make the score 3 -2. However, the Dodgers went meekly in the 9th with Prado and Holliday striking out for the last two outs of the game.

    Game 2

    In the second game of the doubleheader against the Indians, the Dodgers fell behind in the first inning on a run from a leadoff triple by Gardner and a sacrifice fly by Cano. However, the Dodgers roared back in the 2nd as Ellis’s two run homer gave the Dodgers the lead 2-1. After the second inning, the game became a pitching duel. Although the Dodgers had only one more base runner, the rest of the game, Ryu held the Indians scoreless until the 9th inning when closer Brothers came into save it for the Dodgers. The Indians had base runners in the 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th innings, but the Dodgers’ pitching prevented any more damage. The final score of the game was 2-1. The Dodgers record after this game is 2-2.

  3. This is Ben's 2 game summaries from the first series of the class. I am posting it again here because I am not sure if the game summaries are supposed to be in the comments or a new post.

    Dodgers vs Braves

    Game One
    In what was expected to be a pitcher’s duel, the Braves and Dodgers had a slugfest in their first game. Clayton Kershaw and Tanner Roark, the respected aces of both teams, each gave up 5+ runs in their season debut. The Dodgers took an early lead with a homer from Navarro and a 3-run blast from Goldschmidt. The Braves game surging back with homers from Werth and Braun. At the end of the game, the Braves mounted a comeback but were stopped short by Kershaw who pitched a full nine innings.

    Game Two
    The second game of the series had a slow start, but a wild finish. Greinke pitched for the Dodgers and Mike Minor for the Braves. The Dodgers jumped to a three run lead with a homerun from Holliday and two RBIs from Martin Prado. In the eighth inning, however, the Braves pounced and scored four runs off of the Dodger’s reliever, Rex Brothers. With a one run lead going into the ninth, the Dodgers faced David Carpenter, one of the best relievers in the game. Kimbrel shut down the Dodgers and earned his first save of the season.

  4. DODGERS V. NATIONALS

    Game 1

    A single pinch hit by the Nats was not good enough to overcome eight Dodger double in the first game of the two game series. The Dodgers and pitcher Cliff Lee dominated, winning 4 – 0. In the second inning the Dodgers got three doubles to build a 2 – 0 lead. Ramirez and Goldschmidt scored in the 6th and 8th innings - after getting on base with doubles, to close out the Dodgers scoring. Cliff Lee pitched great giving up on a single pinch hit in the 6th, and he finished with a complete game shutout.

    Final Score: 4 – 0
    Winning Pitcher: Cliff Lee
    Losing Pitcher: Zimmerman
    Homers by Dodgers: None

    Game 2

    In the second game against the Nats, the Dodgers held on as the home teams come back attempt fell just short resulting in a 5 – 4 victory for the Dodgers. Holliday’s 2 run homer in the 4th inning, followed by Puig’s 2 run shot in the 5th inning provided most of the Dodgers runs. Gomez scored an insurance run in the 9th which proved to be important because of Harper’s 2 run homer for the Nats. Desmond’s strike out and Cuddyer’s popout to the 3rd baseman ended the game for the Nats. Ryu pitched 8 strong innings to take the win.

  5. REDS VS DODGERS

    Game 1

    The Dodgers beat the Reds 4-2 in the first game of a double header today. The Red’s jumped out to an early 1 run lead thanks to a solo homer by Carpenter in the first inning. The Dodgers scored 2 runs. After a triple by Scutaro, Puig hit a homer, bringing both in for runs. The Reds continued to get many men on base, but scored only in the 2nd inning when a double by Bruce knocked in Altuve who had singled. The Dodgers brought more men on base as well, and in the 5th inning Holliday got a run. This brought the Dodgers over the Red’s with a score of 3 -2. Ramirez scored the final run on a double by Holliday.

    Final Score: 4-2

    Game 2

    The second game of the two game series against the Reds was an exciting one. Gonzalez of the Reds started off the scoring with a homer in the 1st inning. Gonzalez knocked in Segura in the 3rd for a second run for the Reds. Gonzalez also scored in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Votto. The Dodgers scored twice in the 6th on runs by Scutaro and Ramirez, bringing the score to 3 – 2. The game was decided in the 7th when the Reds scored 3 runs, but the Dodgers followed in the bottom of the inning with a 6 run explosion ending the scoring at 8 – 6.

  6. RANGERS V. DODGERS

    Game 1

    The Dodgers fell short to the Rangers in the first game of their two game series. Kershaw kept the game 0 – 0 until the top of the 4th when Crisp, Andrus, and Davis all scored for the Rangers. This making the score 3 – 0. In the top of the 6th, Perez of the Indians got on base with a double, and Gentry, the next batter up hit a homer, bringing the score to 5 – 0. The Dodgers got several singles throughout the game, but struggled to get past 1st base. Ramirez of the Dodgers scored the only run for the team in the bottom of the 6th inning with a homer. The final score of the game was 5 – 1.

    Game 2

    In the Second game the Dodgers played against the Rangers in the two game series, the Dodgers fell short again. In the bottom of the 3rd, Crisp hit a two run homer, bringing himself and Cashner in for runs. Cruz of the Rangers scored in the top of the 6th by a double from Gentry, bringing the score to 3 – 0. Similar to the first game of the series, the Dodgers got on base a fair amount, but struggled to score, until the bottom of the 9th when Gomez got on second and scored after Shumaker got a double, while pinch hitting for Ellis. The Final score of the game was 3 – 1.

  7. DODGERS V CARDINALS

    Game 1

    The Dodgers bad luck continued into the first game of a two game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, falling short one run. The Cardinals started off the game strong with a homer by Jay in the bottom of the 1st. In the second, Beltran got on base with a double, and Davis hit a double bringing Beltran in for the run. The Dodgers had Prado score in the top of the 4th, bringing the score to 2 – 1. Miller, the Cards pitcher hit a homer in the bottom of the 5th, bringing the score to 3 – 1. Still a close game, Puig hits a triple, followed by Prado’s walk, having men on both 1st and 3rd. Ramirez hits a double, bringing both Puig and Prado in for runs, tying the score up 3 – 3. However, Encarnacion of the Cards hits the final run of the game, a homer in the bottom of the 8th, bringing the final score of the game to 4 – 3.

    Game 2

    The Dodgers started off the second game of the two game series strong with 3 runs in the top of the 1st. Ramirez hit a homer, and Holliday hit a two run homer, bringing Goldschmidt in for a run. Jay of the Cards hit a homer in the bottom of the 3rd making the score 3 – 1. Nava got a run in the top of the 6th, but the Cardinals had a successful 6th inning as well and got runs by both Casilla and Encarnacion. The score after the 6th was 4 – 3. The Dodgers furthered their lead in the top of the 9th with the final run of the game being a homer by Gomez, who was pinch hitting for Howell. The final score was 5 – 3.

  8. BRAVES V. DODGERS

    Game 1

    The Dodgers fall in the first game of a two game series against the Braves. Scutaro starts the game off on the right note in the bottom of the 1st with a homer, to make the score 1 – 0, but that was the only run scored by the Dodgers for the next 6 innings. Johnson of the Braves scored in the top of the 5th, and Tulowitski hit a homer in the top of the 6th, making the score 2 – 1. In the 7th inning, Lucroy of the Braves advances to first after an error, and Heyward follows him with a homer. In the same inning Holliday of the Dodgers scores, this run brings the score at the end of the 7th to 4 – 2. The last run of the game was scored by Lucroy in the top of the 9th, after a RBI double by Heyward. The final score of the game was 5-2.

    Game 2

    The Dodgers ended their 3 game losing streak in the second game of the two game series against the Braves. Ramirez hit a homer in the bottom of the 2nd, bottom of the 4th, and bottom of the 7th. Scutaro also hit a homer in the bottom of the 7th, making the score 4 – 0 at the end of the 7th inning. Freeman of the braves scored the only run for the team in the 8th inning after getting on second with a double, advancing to 3rd while Gennett was at bat and ultimately scoring when Lucroy hit an RBI single. The Final score of the game was 4 – 1.

  9. PIRATES V. DODGERS

    Game 1

    Going into the first game of a two game series with the same record in the league, the Dodgers defeated the Pirates 3 – 2. Puig scored the first run in the 1st with an RBI single by Prado, after Puig hit a triple. Holliday hit a homer in the bottom of the 4th, making the score 2 – 0. The Pirates tied the game up in the 6th with runs by Kendrick and Alvarez, but the Dodgers were able to hold off the visiting team with another run by Puig in the 8th.

    Final Score: 3 - 2
    Winning Pitcher: Lee
    Losing Pitcher: Howell
    Homers by Dodgers: Holliday (4th)

    Game 2

    The second game of the series against the Pirates was incredible. No team scored until the 3rd inning when the Dodgers scored, not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 10 runs in one single inning. Navarro hit a homerun to lead off the inning. Pinch hitter Young, got on first and scored after Scutaro hit a double. Puig hit a double, bringing Scutaro to home plate. Ramirez hit an RBI triple. Goldschmidt hit a two run homer, bringing himself and Goldschmidt in for runs. With Gomez, Navarro, and Young all on base, Scutaro hit a grand slam, making the score 10 – 0. In the 7th Navarro hit a two run homer, bringing the score to 12 – 0. In the 8th inning both Parra and Gomez scored as well. The Pirates scored one run in the 9th inning by McCuthen.

    Final Score: 14 - 1

  10. DODGERS V. REDS

    Game 1

    The Dodgers fell short to the Reds in the first game of a two game series. The Dodgers started off with a two run lead after the 4th inning when Holliday and Nava scored. Holliday hit a single, and Nava hit a RBI double. Navarro followed Nava with an RBI single bringing the score to 2 – 0. In the bottom of the 6th Gonzalez of the Reds hit a triple which was followed by Segura’s two run homer, tying up the game 2 – 2. The Reds scored the last run of the game in the 7th inning with a homer by pinch hitter Cabrera. The final score was 3 -2.

    Game 2

    Scutaro started off game two of the two game series against the Reds with a run, after an RBI single by Puig, but this was the only run scored by the Dodgers until the 9th inning. Choo of the Reds scored with an RBI single by Votto in the bottom of the 4th. Bruce scored with an RBI single by Altuve in the bottom of the 5th. Votto scored the final run for the Reds in the 6th inning with an RBI single by Segura. The score was 3 -1 after the 6th. In the 9th inning, the Dodgers attempted to bring the game back, but fell short by one run. Holliday hit a double, and scored after Nava’s RBI double. The final score was 3 – 2.

  11. CARDINALS V DODGERS

    In a single game series, the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals in the bottom of the 13th inning. Jay of the Cards started off the game with a run, and was the only player to score for the next seven innings. Ramirez of the Dodgers got on first and was brought home with an RBI double by Nava. Goldschmidt walked on first and scored with an RBI single by Navarro. This brought the score to 2 -1 in the top of the 9th. Phillips of the Cards tied up the game in the top of the 9th with a homer, but in the bottom of the 13th Holliday walked on first and was brought home with an RBI single by Navarro for the win. The Dodgers are looking forward to the playoffs.
