Game 1: Nationals vs. Pirates
Nationals 2 – 0
L – Liriano (2-1)
Pirates: (7-5)
The three-day layoff cooled down the Pirates, ending their
six game win streak by a score of 2-0. Stephen Strasburg cooled down the
Pirates’ offense severely and they simply could not convert with runners on
base. With runners on first and second base in the seventh inning Dominic Brown
ripped a single to center field. Nationals center fielder Denard Span made a
game-saving throw to the plate to gun down Pedro Alvarez and preserve the lead.
The Pirates were also doubled off of third base twice in the game. The Pirates dropped
into a tie for first place in the National League with the Dodgers.
