Pirates' Day 6 Recap

Game 1: Nationals vs. Pirates
Nationals 2 – 0
L – Liriano (2-1)
Pirates: (7-5)


The three-day layoff cooled down the Pirates, ending their six game win streak by a score of 2-0. Stephen Strasburg cooled down the Pirates’ offense severely and they simply could not convert with runners on base. With runners on first and second base in the seventh inning Dominic Brown ripped a single to center field. Nationals center fielder Denard Span made a game-saving throw to the plate to gun down Pedro Alvarez and preserve the lead. The Pirates were also doubled off of third base twice in the game. The Pirates dropped into a tie for first place in the National League with the Dodgers.
