The opening series for the Indians went much as expected. Facing a suspect Texas team, they took care of business, finishing 2-0. The first game pitted Cleveland ace Max Scherzer against the Rangers' David Price. Colby Rasmus went two for four, including a two-run shot in the first inning. Kipness added another dinger while Kyle Seager and Robinson Cano also tallied RBIs. In the second leg, Ubaldo Jiminez pitched a complete game, giving up only one run. Poor defense allowed the Indians to capitalize in the seventh inning, scoring four of their five runs and putting the game away.

The Cleveland Indians came into their second series (against the Dodgers) filled with excitement as they had just swept the Texas Rangers. On the mound for game one against LA was Justin Masterson, a B pitcher who throws gas! The Indians unsurprisingly got on the scoreboard quickly as they hit back to back homers in the first inning. These shots came off the bats of Colby Rasmus and the amazingly talented Robinson Cano. Masterson shut down the Dodgers only allowing three hits in eight innings of pitching. When asked what he thought about his performance, Masterson responded, “It was easy out there. I kept everything low and their team was swinging at pitches like they’ve never played the game. It was a great win.” The Indians pulled away with a 3-2 victory. The second game was similar to the first game. The Indians got on the board in the first inning with an rbi single from the CF Adam Jones. However, the Dodgers responded in the second inning with two runs of their own. Sadly, it stayed this way the entire game and the Dodgers handed Cleveland their first loss of the season.
The Fourth series for the Indians did not go well at all as they dropped two games to the RedSox. In game one, Boston had an 11-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Indians just didn’t have enough in them this game to pull it off as they lost 11-7. Masterson took his first loss of the season. It was probably the worst outing of his life. The second game wasn’t much better as Boston blanked the Indians. The final score was 3-0 as Tillman took his second loss of the season.

The Indians split their third series with the Detroit Tigers 1-1. The first game was a pitching duel that went into extras. The Indians hit terribly, only recording two base hits through the first 9 innings. The only bright spot was Max Scherzer, who kept the game scoreless through 9 innnings before giving up a walkoff to Cabrera in the 10th. The Indians bounced back in the second game, winning 6-0 behind efficient offense and masterful pitching by Ubaldo Jiminez.
Going into the 5th series against the Nationals, the Indians were very excited. The players knew they were facing a sorry Nationals team full of mediocre players. However, the Nationals put away Max Scherzer and the Indians in game one. Scherzer had 8 strikeouts and went the full length in the 3-1 loss. The Indians were hoping to take game two in the series after coming off of a hard loss. Ubaldo Jimenez took the mound for game two and was pitching very well. Unfortunately, he had no run support in the game and the Indians lost another close one.
The Indians were not confident entering the 6th series against the Oakland A’s. The A’s had been dominating in the league while the Indians did not look good in their previous games. Surprisingly, the Indians held game one close against the A’s until they hit a sacrifice fly to end the game in extras. This game was one of the best pitching matches of the year. Every pitcher who entered the game from both sides was showing their full potential. The second game was different. After being tied 3-3 for a while, the A’s pulled away with a 3-run homer from Donaldson. The Indians ended up losing 8-4.
The Indians were ready in their 7th series to take on the Tampa Rays as they had their ace, Max Scherzer, back on the mound. Unfortunately, he did not have a good start as he gave up 2 runs in the first inning. In another game of going the full length, Scherzer had 8 strikeouts in the 3-1 loss. In game two, the Indians took another loss as Jimenez gave up 5 runs by the third inning. The Indians used four different pitchers in this contest and lost 5-2.
The Indians 8th series was an interleague matchup against the Cardinals. The team didn’t know much about the Cardinals squad other than that they had the same record. Masterson was on the mound for the Indians and he had a great showing. He went for the complete game and had 10 strikeouts. The Indians won 1-0! It was the teams first win in 8 games! Game two had a great start as Adam Jones hit a two run homer in the first inning. He rounded the bases saying “The black man can and the black man did.” The Indians scored a few more and ended up winning 4-1. Tillman got the win and the loss went to Kelly. It finally looked as if the Indians were turning the season around.

Game 2: WP: Tillman LP: Kelly HR: Jones 1 RBI: Jones 2 , Cano 1, Brantley 1
The 9th series for the Indians was against the Rangers. The team was confident against this Texas team because they swpet them at the beginning of the season. However, game one didn’t go as planned. The Rangers won game one off of two solo homers from Stanton and Gentry. Game two was much better for the Indians. After being down 3-0 in the 3rd inning, Robinson Cano hit a 3 run double to tie the game up! In the 5th inning, the Indians continued to crush the ball as they had 4 consecutive rbi doubles with two outs! The Indians crushed the Rangers playoff hopes with a 8-4 win!
The final series of the season was a one game matchup between the Tigers and the Indians. The two teams were fighting to stay out of last place. Whichever lost ended with the worst record in the league. As you could’ve guessed, the Indians lost… again. The score was 4-2. The Indians got to a quick 1-0 lead in the first off of a double from Jones, but things took a turn for the worst when the Tigers hit a 3 run homer in the 4th. The Indians couldn’t fight their way back.
