  3. Game 1:
In a tightly contested Opening Day game, the Red Sox defeated the Tigers 8-6. The game went back and forth. Early in the game a Chris Carter three run blast put the Tigers ahead in the early goings, but RBI doubles by Yadier Molina and Adrian Gonzalez put the Sox’s up for good. David Ortiz added a homerun, which finished the game off. The winning pitcher, Jose Fernandez, had this to say after the game, “Besides that hanging slider I left for Carter I think I pitched a decent game. Also my hitters backed me up which was nice.”

    Win: Jose Fernandez (1-0)
    Loss: Anibal Sanchez (0-1)
    Save: Koji Uehara (1-0)

  4. Series 1, Game 2

Opening Week for the Red Sox was bittersweet. They got a win during game 1 of 2 versus the Detroit Tigers, but unfortunately game 2 did not have the same outcome. Clay Bucholz took the mound for Boston and surrendered 3 runs during 1 inning in which the Tiger bats got hot. Otherwise, he pitched his butt off for 6 innings. John Paxton of the Tigers also threw a very nice game only surrendering 1 run through 6 innings of work. After the 6th inning it was a 3-1 game until a base hit off of Boston reliever Jesse Crain put the Tigers up 4-1. Then in later hopes the Red Sox rallied in the 8th to go down 1 run. Unfortunately for them, that’s all they would get in this hard fought game. The game ended 4-3 with the Tigers taking the win over the Red Sox.

Red Sox fans were able to take a breather after the Sox swept the Texas Rangers. They we’re absolutely dominant. After game one’s victory, ‘The Beards’ went into the second game clicking on all cylinders especially pitcher Jarred Cosart. Cosart threw a complete game only surrendering 1 run on 4 hits. He also had 10 strikeouts with 1 walk. It was a more than stellar performance by the young gun in his first start for the team. “I wasn’t thinking about anything while I was out there. I just thought one pitch at a time and to execute. It worked pretty well for me.” Meanwhile, there was an abundance of run for the Red Sox. They had their second game in a row where they scored 6 runs. Total, they had 12 runs in the series. If they keep that up they’ll be hard to beat. Team captain, Dustin Pedroia, was 2-4 with a single, double with an RBI, and a stolen base. “See ball, hit ball. That’s all there is to it.” Pedroia explained. “ Look, it’s not about me. It’s about getting a ring when it’s all said and done. That’s the only thing this locker room is thinking about, so I do whatever I can do to help.” Another noticeable player was Mike Trout who went 1-3 with a walk and a double with 2 RBIs. Not so fortunate was Jacoby Ellsbury who wore the golden sombrero because of his 4 strikeouts. When asked about it he said, “We have a game tomorrow, right? Yea. That’s what I thought. It won’t bother me.” Hopefully, the sweep will get our beloved Red Sox on a nice winning streak to bolster our, already, good record.

  7. In the series opener between the Rangers and the visiting Red Sox, the Red Sox won 6-3. Adrian Gonzalez started the game off with a bang when he hit a 2 run homer in the second inning. The Sox never went down, but the game became close in the later stages. The key play for the Sox that helped them separate from the Rangers was a two run mammoth blast for David Ortiz in the eighth inning. At that point the Sox were up by only one run. The homerun gave Koji Uehara some breathing room to get the save. Ortiz had this to say after the game, “ I was lucky to get that fastball down the middle. It was fat and I drove it out of the park.” The Red Sox look to take this momentum into the series finally tomorrow.

    Loss: Wood (0-1)

  8. In the first game of inter-league play the Red Sox wiped the floor with the Pirates, defeating them 12-1. The runs came early and often for the sox as they scored 11 of there 12 runs by the end of the third. However the Sox offense wasn’t the only bright spot of the game. Winning pitcher Jose Fernandez only allowed one run in his nine innings of work while striking out 13 batters. Fernandez had this to say after the game, “I had my stuff working for me, and I had much better control over my stuff then in my first start. Also it is much easier to pitch and focus on throwing strikes when you have a eleven run lead.” The sox have now won three strait games and seem to be hitting their stride.

    Win: Jose Fernandez (2-0)

Game 2 was a nail-bitter, and game 1, not so much. Game 2 ended in a 4-3 shootout between the Pirates and Red Sox. The Red Sox were winning, 2-1, for the majority of the game until late when Marlon Byrd hit a 2-run home run to take a 4-2 lead after they tied the game earlier. Then in the ninth inning the Red Sox showed life. After scoring a run to go down 4-3, the Red Sox had men on 2nd and 3rd with two outs, and struggling Jacoby Ellsbury at the plate. On a 2-1 pitch, Ellsbury rolled it to third base. 3rd baseman, Pedro Alvarez, bobbled the ball and couldn’t seem to find it in his glove. Once he got a handle on the ball he whipped it to first base, and Ellsbury was safe!! Wait, no. He was out the first base umpire blew the game. Later replay’s showed Ellsbury was clearly safe, and with Trout on deck the game would have been over. Red Sox fans showed appreciation with a borage of boos. Regardless, the Sox cant get that one back and all they can concentrate on is the next series.

  10. In game 1 of the Red Sox vs. Indians series the Red Sox won 11-7. The Red Sox got off to a hot start scoring ten of their runs before the end of the third inning. Deep balls from David Ortiz and Jose Reyes powered the Red Sox. Both Reyes and Ortiz have been on hot streaks in the past couple of games and have both hit multiple homeruns. Ortiz had this to say after the game, “everything is starting to come together for us. We have been hitting and pitching and there is a great atmosphere around here. If we keep this going this could be the year that we win it all.”
    Win: Danny Duffy (2-0)

  11. Series 4, Game 2
What a way to cap off a series for the Red Sox!! They got the 2 game SWEEP over the Indians who are known for their trash talk. The series was a tale of two teams, the offensively powerful Red Sox then the brilliant pitching and defensive game. In game 1, it was all offense while starter Danny Duffy surrendered 6 earned runs. Luckily, the offense exploded for 11 runs! “Thank god for offense. They saved my tail today. No question I should have been slated for the L. I gotta buy those guys dinner sometime.” Duffy said. Game 2 was completely different. It was all about the pitching and defense. Jarred Cosart threw a beautiful 7 innings of 1 hit baseball, while surrendering 0 runs. Although the decision to pull Cosart was debated by fans after the game, they couldn’t get upset over the final score. The Red Sox ended the series with a 3-0 victory over the Indians. Uehara who had a couple extra days of rest was able to pitch the last 2 innings of the game a lock up the two-inning save. The first run scored was by Red Sox shortstop Jose Reyes on his solo home run. Reyes, not known as a major power threat, already has hit 3 dingers on the year. Then the beloved Big Papi got another run on the board with his RBI-double. Then second baseman Dustin Pedroia tallied another run on an RBI-single. That was all she wrote the stellar pitching and defense locked it down from there. Now, the star-studded Red Sox take their talents to Oakland. It is the best series of the year. They are both tied for first midseason. Hopefully, the Sox can improve their winning streak to 4.

The Red Sox lost a close game to the league rival Oakland A’s, 2-1. They are both atop the division and fighting for the number 1 seed. However, after talking to both team owners the objective is to make the playoffs in any way possible. Then, that’s when it really matters. The good news for the Red Sox is that they are still tied for 1st place. The lone run came on a Mike Trout homerun. The A’s got a run on an RBI double then later a go ahead HR. Clay Bucholz has been one of the most unlucky players this year. He only gave up two runs and was given the L. He only gave up 3 hits as well. Even though the Red Sox lost they are still optimistic that they can get the number one seed. The journey to the top continues with an important series against the Rays.

  13. In the Red Sox first game against the Oakland A’s, the Sox won 7-0. This game was of the outmost importance as it put the Red Sox in sole position of first place. The Sox first struck in the second on a two run homer by Jose Reyes. The sox added another run in the eight with a solo homer by Josh Hamilton, his first of the year. The Sox also added four insurance runs in the ninth to put the game away. Hamilton had this to say after the game, “I’m glad that my manager gave me my first start. I wanted to prove what I was capable of, and I hope that he continues to start me in the future.”

  14. In an instant classic the Red Sox defeated the Rays in 16 innings 7-6. This game went back and forth between the two teams, and finished at 2:30 in the morning. The Rays jumped out to an early lead on Danny Duffy 2-0 in the first. The game went back and forth until the bottom of the eighth when the Rays were up 5-3. With two outs and no one on, both Manny Machado and Jose Bautista proceeded to walk. David Ortiz then stepped to the plate and jacked a three run homer over the green monster. Koji Uehara was looking strong in the ninth until he had two outs and two strikes when Alex Gordon hit a pinch-hit homerun. The game remained scoreless for another seven innings. Then in the bottom of the sixteenth Ortiz ripped another homer to center to win the game. He had this to say after he finished celebrating, “What a great game man. It was so exiting and I can’t believe we won. It looked like we had no chance but we still came back. Incredible.”

  15. Series 5, Game 2
Game 2 of the Red Sox-Rays series was just as amazing, if not more amazing, than the first game. Jarred Cosart did not have his best stuff today. He threw 6 innings and gave up 5 runs. He just did not feel it going out there. The Red Sox were able to provide 3 runs to Cosart. After coming off the walk-off home run in the 16-inning marathon, the beloved Big Papi hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the first inning. Then the other cornerstone of the organization, Dustin Pedroia, hit a home run in the 2nd inning. So, going into the 7th inning the Red Sox were already down 5-3. The move to the bullpen was made and right-hander Jesse Crain was called upon. Crain has pitched very well out of the pen this year, but this one got away from him. He gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk. Not a good showing for him. However, the offense had his back. In the bottom half of the inning Pedroia reached on a single. Then Hamilton grounded into a fielder’s choice. After a Reyes strikeout, Mike Trout, first-overall pick, strode to the plate. That ball left the park so fast it had to give David Robertson whiplash as he watched it sail out of Fenway. That made the ballgame a three-run game. Then in the bottom of the 8th inning, after Robertson walked back-to-back batters, Yadier Molina walked up to the plate. “I was so jacked up I don’t even remember most of it.” Molina said. Robertson hung a fatty to Molina and Molina took Robertson’s ball on a nice stroll to Lansdowne Street as Molina parked it over the Monster in left. “I couldn’t even hear.” Ortiz said. “Honestly, I couldn’t believe that we had just tied the game again after doing the same thing in the last game. Don’t give up on us Boston.” It wasn’t over, though. That only tied it. Koji Uehara came in the next inning after just having blown the save the night before (or should I say morning because it was really 2am). After getting two quick outs, Mauer singled. Then Jennings came up and took a HUGE cut and barely missed extra bases as he just got under it. Molina was already in disbelief that he had hit the three-run bomb to tie it, but now he stepped back up to the plate with 2 outs and a runner on first. The 2-1 pitch came in Molina took a fundamentally solid cut as he drove one to right field. The ball just didn’t seem to go down. The ball wrapped around the pesky poll for a two-run homer as the Sox rallied from down 5 RUNS to get the win. We would have gotten a quote from Molina, but he was mauled by his teammates after the ‘most amazing game of his career’.

  16. Series 6, Game 2
Well, game 2 against the Tigers make the Red Sox 3-1 in their last 4 games. Also, out of their last 4 games, three of them have been into extra innings. Regardless, this was a huge win for the Sox because prior to their game the A’s beat the Rangers, which would have put them in sole possession of first place if the Sox did not win. The Red Sox jumped ahead early, 1-0, on a RBI single by Jose Bautista. Bucholz then threw 3 scoreless innings and then gave up a double then an RBI single. The Red Sox were still confident that they could win the game. However, in the 6th inning Bucholz gave up a two-run shot to Chris Carter who has killed the Red Sox all year with his bat. So, it got to the 9th inning with the Red Sox down 3-2 after an RBI single off the bat of Jose Reyes in the 7th inning. To lead off the 9th Dustin Pedroia walked on 4 pitches. Then the next two guys got out. With Mike Trout up and two outs, things got tense. The count was 3-2 and Holland wound up and threw a ball that barely missed the corner for ball 4. The Red Sox last hope Manny Machado stepped to the plate with two outs. The count was 1-2, and Machado got an inside fastball. He ripped it down the first base line for an RBI single to tie the game. Then it went to the 11th to decide the game. Another clutch double by Dustin Pedroia led off the inning followed by an Ellsbury strikeout. Ellsbury has been god-awful this year for the Red Sox. Jose Reyes stepped to the plate and blasted a double into the left-center gap as the Red Sox took the lead. Then Koji Uehara came in for the save in the bottom half of the inning.

  17. In the first game of the Tigers Red Sox series, the Sox suffered a crushing loss. The final score of the game was 1-0. The controversy in the game was the Sox manger seemed to thing that the Tigers weren’t using a game regulation ball. He had this to say to the media, “That ball clearly wasn’t regular sized. Also it didn’t just affect us, it affected them to as both of us scored no runs. I think that it is ridiculous that the commissioner doesn’t take a deeper look into this.” Miguel Cabrera drove in the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly.

  18. Series 7, Game 2
Game 2 of the interleague series capped off a miserable road trip to Atlanta. Cosart, who has pitched well this year, gave up 5 runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. It was his worst performance of the year by far. It did not stop from there as the Braves put up another 4 runs during the game to total 9. Meanwhile, the Red Sox bats could not even get close to matching them as they had done earlier in the year. They scored 2 runs on a solo bomb to lead off the game by Mike Trout, and a sac fly hit by Big Papi. There were only three things positive that you could take out of that butt-whoopin’. One, Mike Trout upped his HR total to 4, and Jon Lester in his debut this year pitched well in 2 and 2/3 innings. The last thing, the A’s lost to keep the Red Sox within one game of the 1st place spot going into their 2 game series, at home, against the A’s. This series will define the Red Sox year.

  19. In the Red Sox first game versus the Atlanta Braves, the Braves won 6-3. The Sox were up 2-0 in the fifth after a Trout homerun. However the wheels fell off the bus in the fifth. The Braves got on a role and hit the ball continually off Danny Duffy, Jesse Crain, and Craig Breslow. Duffy had this to say after the game, “I need to have a better start. I let down my teammates and that is unacceptable. I apologize to my family and friends.” The Red Sox won’t cut Duffy even though there has been some talk between ownership about it.

    Series 8, Game 2

The series got even better after the 2-1 win over the second game against the A’s. After Bucholz surrendered the solo home run to Chris Denorfia in the 1st inning, the game went silent for 7 innings. The Red Sox got a runner on base for every inning but one. They just couldn’t seem to push one across until the 8th inning. Mike Trout stepped up to the plate with two outs and hit a 480 ft. homer to dead center field to tie the game. You could not hear your own thoughts. Fenway was so loud. However, it had to be settled in extras…again. Out of the last 6 games the Red Sox have played 4 extra innings games, and won all 4 of them. Koji ‘Brick Wall’ Uehara once again had once again shut the door on the A’s in the 9th. Then Colon got out of the bottom half. Then the Red Sox loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 10th inning after Jesse Crain threw a flawless inning. With no outs and the bases loaded, Manny Machado stepped up to the plate. He hit a hard ball to shortstop, but he made a great play. That ended in a double play. Now, there were two down with runners on 2nd and 3rd with Big Papi going up to the plate. They intentionally walked him. Yadier Molina came to the plate. He has been clutch all year, and he was once again. He hit a sharp groundball between short and third as the Red Sox walked off again. There was a playoff atmosphere at Fenway, tonight, and it ended the way they wanted to.

  20. In the Red Sox first game against the A’s the Red Sox won 1-0. The game was a pitcher duel with rookie aces Jose Fernandez and Matt Harvey matching zeros for most of the game. The games only run can on a solo blast by Jose Bautista. Bautista got a hold of a low change up and yanked the ball over the Green Monster. He had this to say about the game, “It was a exiting game. I’m so glad we came out with a win, we really needed that.” Jose Fernandez added this after the game, “It was a great team win and it’s good to be back in first place.”

  21. In the Red Sox last game of the season they lost to the Rays on a controversial call. In the first inning James Loney hit a solo shot that was called fair by umpire Angel Hernandez. Upon review the ball was clearly foul but Hernandez would not change the call. The Red Sox were down 3-0 after solo shots by Loney, Myers, and Mauer. The Sox look like they would come back when they were down by one with the bases loaded and Manny Machado up. However Machado struck out and the Sox didn’t score another run the rest of the game and lost 3-2. This game however ended up not mattering as the Sox had already clinched first place.
