Noah Cohen Board Baseball Essay 2014 The Atlanta Braves had a good season this year. Looking to build off the 2013 season The Braves had high hopes to maybe bring home a World Series win. This goal became increasing unlikely when the MLB decided to get rid of all but 12 teams and shorten the regular season down to only 20 games. Insiders say that the shortened season was mostly to attempt to compete with the growing popularity of football. Along with the shortened season the World Series became only one game to build up intensity. Also the season moved to the winter to try and compete with the Super Bowl, which happened only two days after the World Series. After the strange, and very secret redraft The Braves looked for some more hitting power, drafting Troy Tulowiitzki, Ryan Braun and many other all-star hitters, the Braves lineup looked almost unbeatable. The Braves traded struggling Kris Medlen for all star Jason Werth with some of the money The Braves got from the extremely controversial full league salary swaps. The Braves greatly benefited from the salary swaps when they were given the Red Sox’s salary of 166 million instead of the 86 million The Braves had in 2013. Almost doubling their salary The
Braves will certainly be a force to be recorded during the next couple of years. However, in The Braves first play off game, a terrible first inning by pitcher Charlie Morton dashed all chances at a World Series appearance. Along with Morton’s terrible playoff outing Freddy Freeman did almost as much damage during the season. Freddy Freeman hit into a triple play and countless double plays in important situations, and this triple play against The Pirates lost The Braves an important game and almost cost them a playoff appearance. He also caused injuries to David Wright twice, which really hurt the team. While Charlie Morton and Freddy Freeman created some of the low points during the season there was also many high points. Braves Co-General Manager Noah Cohen said, "My person highlight was when third string 1st baseman Joey Terdoslavich won the Cy Young award. He is the first position player to even be awarded the Cy Young and we can only hope he builds on the phenomenal season he just finished." Many were surprised when Terdoslavich was put into games as a reliever but he shocked everyone and pitched some beautiful innings. "I was surprised I was drafted at all," Terdoslavich reveals to our reporters in an exclusive interview, "And when they told me to warm up in the bull pin I was even more surprised. I was struggling to hit in the majors last year and I was afraid I would be sent back down to double A, but the insight of manager Noah Cohen saved my career and made me one of the top pitchers today." Terdoslavich went on to talk about his new 15 million dollar contract he just signed with The Braves and the day to day in the club house. Another highlight was when The Braves won 9-2 at home against the Red Sox. This win put momentum into the recently slumping team and pushed them all the way to a playoff spot. Another thing that helped the Braves during the season was that the Braves had one of the best relieving squads in the league this year, with Craig Kimbrel, David Carpenter and Luis Avilan The Braves rarely struggled late in games. Craig Kimbrel really helped youngster Terdoslavich out with some lessons after games. Kimbrel said, “I am really happy that I could use my talents to help sculpt Terdoslavich into one of the top relievers in the league.” Kimbrel seemed pretty pleased that teammate Terdoslavich joined the nine relievers to ever win the Cy Yong, even though most players and fans agree that he was a much better pitcher than Terdoslavich. The Braves had there ups and downs and we all expect a much more explosive season next year for The Braves. The Braves except another redraft for next year and Manager Noah Cohen says, “Next year I am going to look for some really great pitchers. I made a bad judgment call when drafting Charlie Morton and other mediocre pitchers. A key to this new league is some really good pitchers so you don’t have to rely on your offense to win games. Along with this I plan to go for some more expensive players because we have 40 million dollars sitting around and nothing to do with it. So next year I am planning to go for some big contracts and some really good pitchers.”

ReplyDeleteBoard Baseball Essay 2014
The Atlanta Braves had a good season this year.
ReplyDeleteThe Braves except another redraft for next year and Manager Noah Cohen says, “Next year I am going to look for some really great pitchers.
